Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) sent formal letters to CIA Director John Ratcliffe and FBI Director Kash Patel requesting an accounting of U.S. government records and investigative equities related to the January 1996 Varginha/Campinas, Brazil UAP incident.

The move follows Burlison’s June Capitol steps statements that lawmakers had reviewed Brazilian records – including what he described as a formal FBI inquiry into Varginha – and filmmaker James Fox’s public call for Trump to declassify files on the case. The Department of War published PURSUE Release 04 – 40 files (14 documents, 19 videos, four audio, three images). The archive is now at 334 files. The White House announced it with a UFO emoji.

The headline historical item: three NASA photographs from Space Shuttle Columbia’s STS-80 mission (November 19 – December 7, 1996). The official caption:

“During STS-80, between November 19 and December 7, 1996, astronauts aboard Space Shuttle Columbia captured a series of three images of an unidentified object in low-Earth orbit. In the first photograph, the object is visible near the center of the frame, to the right of the limb of the Earth.”
