- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Official Ruling
- Missing person
Steven Garcia, 48, was a government contractor working for the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) at its Albuquerque, New Mexico satellite facility. On August 28, 2025, he walked out of his home carrying only a handgun and a bottle of water. He left behind his phone, keys, and wallet. He has not been seen since.
Garcia’s disappearance was first reported by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety through a Missing Endangered Advisory. It entered national attention in April 2026 when the Daily Mail identified him as the tenth person tied to America’s nuclear, defense, or space programs to have vanished or died under unusual circumstances since mid-2023.
Background
The Kansas City National Security Campus
KCNSC is a Department of Energy facility managed by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies. It manufactures over 80% of all non-nuclear components used in building the U.S. military’s nuclear weapons – everything from electronic assemblies to mechanical parts to engineering materials. The main campus is in Kansas City, Missouri, with satellite operations in Albuquerque.
Garcia held what an anonymous source described as “a very high-level, overseeing position” as a property custodian responsible for tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment and assets. The exact scope of his access to classified materials has not been publicly disclosed.
What Happened
On the morning of August 28, 2025, Garcia left his home on Cattail Court SW in Albuquerque. He carried only a .22-caliber handgun and a bottle of water. His phone, keys, and wallet were left inside the house. He did not take a vehicle.
Authorities issued a Missing Endangered Advisory, noting that Garcia “may be a danger to himself.” An anonymous source who knew Garcia disputed this characterization, telling the Daily Mail that he was “a very stable person.”
The Investigation
After Garcia’s disappearance, KCNSC conducted an internal review of his work computers, emails, and files. The review found nothing of concern. Neither KCNSC nor the Department of Energy publicly confirmed Garcia’s employment when contacted by the Daily Mail, and no additional details about the investigation have been released.
The Pattern
Garcia is the fifth person to vanish from the New Mexico defense corridor since May 2025 – joining Anthony Chavez (retired LANL, May 2025), Melissa Casias (active LANL, June 2025), Monica Reza (JPL/Aerojet, June 2025), and Maj. Gen. William McCasland (AFRL, February 2026).
The Daily Mail reported that four of these individuals disappeared under nearly identical circumstances – leaving on foot without a car, phone, or wallet. Garcia matches this signature exactly.
His disappearance brings the total to eleven people connected to defense, nuclear, and space programs who have died or vanished under unusual circumstances since mid-2023.
